On Decemeber 4-5, some of our project team memebers had the opportunity to participate in the workshop titled: "Innovative Paths in Community Composting and Organic Waste Valorisation" organised by ICTA UAB and led by the researchers Laura Talens Peiró (also member of ULALABS) and Pietro Tonini. The workshop featured an interactive session with Dr. Gopalakrishnan Kumar from University of Stavanger (also partner university of ULALABS), who shared valuable insights on the valoratisation of coffee waste. Dr. Kumar explored new opportunities to transform this material into value-added products, sparking exciting discussions and exchanges among participants.

Another key session focused on community composting, adopting a practical and collaborative approach. This session presented analyses on the performance and emissions of local composting initiatives, and outlined the challenges and goals of a composting programme for ICTA-UAB.

The workshop not only fostered the exchange of knowledge but also promoted the development of collaborative initiatives in waste management and the circular economy. Additionally, it laid the foundation for future applied research actions, connecting researchers, technicians, and community representatives. For ULALABS community the workshop helped to identify some initial potential cross-case learning points to be explored in subsequent phases of the project.
